The Head of Legal is responsible for overseeing the legal department, providing strategic legal guidance, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves managing legal risks, advising on regulatory changes, and supporting the bank's business objectives while safeguarding its interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Strategy & Compliance.
- Develop and implement a proactive legal strategy aligned with business needs.
- Collaborate with senior management and Group Legal to address key legal priorities.
- Identify potential legal risks and create mitigation plans to protect the bank's interests.
Regulatory & Risk Management.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise on necessary policy adjustments.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and maintain strong relationships.
- Provide timely legal updates to staff to ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
Advisory Services.
- Advise senior management and business units on contract negotiations, mergers, acquisitions, lending practices, and employment law.
- Conduct legal research and provide guidance on complex legal issues.
Contract Management.
- Oversee drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
- Identify and address potential legal risks within contractual agreements.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution.
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, ensuring favorable outcomes.
- Engage and supervise external legal counsel for specialized matters.
- Provide necessary documentation and follow up on legal proceedings.
HR & Internal Investigations.
- Advise on HR and labor law issues, including sensitive employee matters.
- Participate in internal investigations and provide legal perspectives.
- Collaborate with external counsel and oversee their work for quality and compliance.
Requirements:
- University degree in Law with a valid law practice certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years experience in managerial legal roles, including at least 3 years as Head of Legal in the banking sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Corporate Law, Commercial Law, Business Law, and regulations related to financial services and data protection.
- Strong proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, dynamic, and capable of leading a legal team effectively.
