Job Description

The Opportunity:

CurlyBlue is the VR game studio behind jmancurly (@jmancurly) - the #1 VR YouTube channel in the world with 5M+ subscribers and 2.5B+ views. We're building a portfolio of VR games with multiple titles in active development and launches stacked through 2026.

We're hiring 2 Gameplay Developers to build the features that players actually feel - combat systems, abilities, enemy behavior, player interaction, physics, and everything that makes a VR game fun to play. This is a gameplay-first studio. If it doesn't feel good in the headset, it doesn't ship.

When we launch a feature, hundreds of thousands of players test it immediately. The feedback loop is instant and the standards are high.

What You Will Do

  • Build gameplay features in Unity - Design and implement core gameplay systems: combat mechanics, abilities, enemy AI, player movement, interaction systems, and more. Every feature follows a gameplay-first philosophy - if it's not fun, it's not done
  • Optimize for VR hardware - Build features that run smoothly within the constraints of Meta Quest 2/3 headsets. You'll work with tight performance budgets - every frame counts in VR. Multiplayer synchronization, physics optimization, and draw call management are part of your daily life
  • Architect clean, maintainable code - Plan and document your code architecture so the team can build on it. You're not writing code for yourself - you're writing code that 5 other developers need to understand and extend
  • Collaborate across disciplines - Work closely with artists, game designers, and the project manager to design, prototype, and iterate on new features. The best gameplay comes from tight collaboration, not siloed development
  • Communicate constantly - Share your findings, flag technical issues, propose improvements, and surface optimizations. No one should be surprised by the state of your work. Over-communication is a feature, not a bug
  • Iterate based on player feedback - Our games have massive, active communities. You'll ship features, watch players react in real time, and iterate quickly based on what's working and what isn't

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of experience in Unity game development, with a focus on gameplay programming. You've built features that real players have played
  • Advanced C# proficiency - Clean, performant, well-structured code. You understand design patterns, know when to use them, and know when not to
  • Multiplayer experience - You've worked on networked games and understand the challenges of synchronization, latency, and state management in multiplayer environments
  • Strong gameplay intuition - You deeply understand what makes gameplay feel good. Player feedback, game feel, responsiveness, juice - you care about the experience, not just the code
  • Strong debugging, optimization, and performance profiling skills. You can find and fix a frame rate drop before players notice it
  • Excellent problem-solving ability. Complex technical challenges don't intimidate you - they energize you
  • Team player with strong communication skills. You're autonomous but never isolated - you communicate proactively and work well with others
  • English fluency is required (written and verbal). Vietnamese is a strong secondary plus
  • Based in (or willing to relocate to) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In-office. Morning brief at 9AM daily

Bonus Points

  • VR development experience - you've built for headsets and understand the unique constraints
  • Experience with live-ops games, post-launch updates, and rapid hotfix cycles
  • Familiarity with physics-based VR interaction or Gorilla Tag-style locomotion systems
  • Experience building combat systems, enemy AI, or ability/spell systems
  • You play VR games regularly and have strong opinions about what feels good

Why This Is Different

You won't be building features that sit in a backlog for months. You'll ship gameplay that hundreds of thousands of players experience immediately. You'll watch your combat system get tested by a massive community on launch day. You'll see your enemy AI go viral in a YouTube video with millions of views.

The team grows, you grow. CurlyBlue is scaling fast, shipping multiple titles, and building something real in the VR space. If you want to make games that people actually play - this is the place.

How to Apply

Send your resume, links to shipped titles or projects, and a short note on why you're the right fit to [Confidential Information]. Show us what you've built. We move fast.
