Position Overview
The Financial Accountant is responsible for providing accurate financial information to management by researching and analysing accounting data, maintaining financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and preparing financial reports to support business operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare journal entries for assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses.
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions within the accounting system.
- Analyse financial information and recommend appropriate accounting treatments.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Profit & Loss Statement
- Cash Flow Reports
- Other management reports
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Audit supporting documentation to ensure transaction accuracy.
- Prepare and process payments after verifying supporting documentation.
- Maintain accounting controls and recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Ensure financial information is securely maintained and backed up.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial records.
2. Compliance
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory regulations.
- Stay up to date with relevant financial legislation and regulatory changes.
- Provide guidance to management regarding accounting policies and compliance requirements.
- Ensure all accounting deadlines are met.
3. Business Support
- Assist with financial analysis and special financial reports.
- Support day-to-day finance operations.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting issues.
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff when required.
- Answer accounting procedure and policy enquiries.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows.
- Participate in finance-related improvement projects.
- Share best practices across the business.
- Continuously develop professional knowledge through training, workshops and industry updates.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives that improve efficiency and business performance.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of Finance & Accounting KPIs.
- Compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Timely completion of month-end and year-end reporting.
- Accuracy of financial reporting.
- Timely reconciliation of accounts.
- Contribution to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participation in finance projects.
- Ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- Education Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- Professional Qualification, CPA/CA qualification is preferred.
- Advanced English (verbal & written) - MUST
Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in a Financial Accountant or Accountant position.
- Experience within engineering, construction, manufacturing, technical or related industries is advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with accounting software/ERP systems is preferred.
