Position: Discipline Lead – Computer Science

Location: HCMC, Vietnam

Department: School of Data Science & Information Technology, Millennia University

Report to:

  • Dean of Data Science & Information Technology, School of Data Science & Information Technology, Millennia University
  • Dotted-line report to Deputy Dean of Academic, School of Data Science & Information Technology, Millennia University

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Discipline Lead - Computer Science is a School-level executive position and a core member of the School of Data Science & Information Technology, Millennia University. This role is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the undergraduate Computer Science programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, industry standards, and emerging technological trends.

The Discipline Lead will oversee curriculum design and delivery, uphold academic quality and accreditation requirements, and foster engagement with faculty, students, and industry partners. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping a future-focused program that equips graduates with both technical expertise and practical skills relevant to the evolving digital landscape.

The role reports directly to the Dean of Data Science and Information Technology and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship with the Deputy Dean (Academic) to ensure alignment with academic standards and compliance requirements at both the School and University levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Curriculum Design and Academic Program Development

  • Lead the development, and periodic review of Bachelor of Computer Science curriculum to ensure alignment with the University's strategy, industry needs, and emerging technology trends.
  • Ensure the curriculum meets academic quality standards, accreditation requirements, and relevant regulatory frameworks at both national and institutional levels.
  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to develop innovative, industry-relevant course content and effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Integrate practical, experiential learning components—such as projects, internships, and industry collaborations—into the program structure.
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance through data-driven insights, student feedback, and graduate outcomes, implementing continuous improvements where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain academic partnerships with industry and other institutions to enhance curriculum relevance, benchmarking, and opportunities for joint program development.

2. School-wide Academic Profile and Industry Profile Development

  • Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure program relevance, graduate employability, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Promote Bachelor of Computer Science programs through engagement in academic forums, industry events, and outreach initiatives to elevate the School's visibility and reputation.
  • Facilitate industry input into curriculum development through advisory boards, guest lectures, and collaborative projects.
  • Support initiatives that enhance the School's research and innovation ecosystem, including applied research, industry-sponsored projects, and student-led innovation activities.
  • Contribute to student recruitment, retention, and success strategies by showcasing the program's strengths and aligning outcomes with market demands.

3. Research and Innovation

  • Work with the Dean and the Deputy Dean Research & Engagement to promote a culture of research and innovation within the school, encouraging faculty and students to engage in scholarly and applied research activities.
  • Initiate and support research projects aligned with emerging areas in computer science, data science, AI, and information technology.
  • Foster collaborations with industry, research institutions, and external partners to develop impactful, real-world research and innovation initiatives.
  • Support faculty in securing research funding, grants, and industry sponsorships to advance the School's research agenda.
  • Integrate research-led teaching practices into the curriculum, ensuring students are exposed to current developments and methodologies in the field.
  • Oversee and promote student participation in innovation activities, including capstone projects, hackathons, competitions, and startup initiatives.

4. Human Resources & Organizational Development

  • Lead the development of HR strategies that support program and school growth, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee recruitment, workforce planning, performance management, and staff development for Bachelor of Computer Science programs.
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performance organizational culture.

5. Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Serve as a core member of the School Management Team, contributing to institutional strategy and governance.
  • Advise the Dean of School, Deputy Deans, and other academic program managers on operational strategy, infrastructure investment, sustainability initiatives, and institutional risk.
  • Work closely with the School Manager to ensure alignment with school and university governance frameworks and operational standards.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualification and Experience

  • Ph.D. degree in Computing Technology (AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science) domain is required.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience in academic and R&D development.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, large enterprises, or tech-startups preferred.
  • Experience managing medium to large research projects, and software development projects.
  • Understanding of Vietnam's regulatory environment related to higher education, and institutional governance is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with academic regulatory environments in Vietnam is advantageous.

  • Achievement of enrolment targets and enhancement of the program's visibility, reputation, and competitiveness in the higher education market.
  • Strong graduate employment outcomes within a defined period post-graduation, aligned with industry expectations and program objectives.
  • Contribution to the University's long-term institutional performance and reputation.
