We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical and Gear Design Manager to lead the development of mechanical sub-systems in our next-generation electric drive units (e-Motor + Gearbox + Differential + Housing). This role is critical to achieving high efficiency, compact packaging, NVH performance, and cost targets in our EV platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design for EDS gearbox systems (e.g., planetary, helical, hypoid).
- Define gear system architecture, select materials, and develop micro/macro geometry in collaboration with simulation teams.
- Manage a team of 510 engineers; assign tasks, review designs, and guide technical growth.
- Drive CAD/CAE activities (CATIA, NX, KissSoft, MASTA, Romax, Ansys).
- Collaborate with motor design, thermal, NVH, and vehicle integration teams.
- Own DVP&R, DFMEA, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Interface with suppliers for prototyping, testing, and design-for-manufacturability.
- Support testing (NVH, thermal, durability, backlash) and data interpretation for design validation.
- Provide technical reports, decision summaries, and participate in gate reviews.
Other Role
- Willing to train, and develop a strong mechanical design engineering team specializing in gear design, transmission systems, and structural components for electric drive units.
- Define team structure, roles, and responsibilities across disciplines such as component design, simulation, testing, and system integration.
- Provide technical mentorship, performance evaluation, and individual development plans to ensure team growth aligned with company goals
Requirements
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or similar.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, at least 5 years in e-Drive systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in gearbox/gear design for high-speed electric motors.
- Strong experience with CAD tools (CATIA/NX) and gear design tools (KissSoft, MASTA, Romax).
- Hands-on experience in NVH, thermal, and mechanical durability of EV components.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, stack-up, DFMEA, and V-model development.
Prefer Qualification
- Experience launching EDS for high-volume EV production (SOP to mass production).
- Familiarity with ISO 26262, ASIL levels, IATF 16949 compliance.
- Experience working with Asian or European Tier-1 suppliers.
