Job overview and responsibility

Core Responsibilities

1. Brand Narrative & Positioning

- Own the company's brand positioning, value proposition, and messaging architecture

- Define and maintain brand voice, tone, and language guidelines

- Ensure all communications reinforce a single, coherent narrative

- Translate complex ideas into simple, compelling stories

2. Writing & Content Leadership

- Set the editorial direction across all channels

- Personally write and/or edit:

Founder narratives and thought leadership

Long-form articles, essays, and reports

Website and product messaging

Key announcements and strategic documents

- Maintain a high bar for clarity, structure, and substance in all written output

3. Omnichannel Communications

- Own messaging consistency across:

Website

Social media

Editorial content

PR and external communications

Internal communications

- Define what each channel is forand what it is not

- Ensure message adaptation without message dilution

4. External Communications & Reputation

- Lead PR strategy, key announcements, and media narratives

- Support partnerships and launches with clear, aligned messaging

- Protect and strengthen brand credibility over time

5. Internal Communications

- Shape internal narratives that reinforce vision, strategy, and priorities

- Help teams understand why decisions are made, not just what is decided

- Act as a clarity layer between leadership and the organization

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with:

Founders (strategy narrative)

Research (insight story)

Design (words before visuals, not after)

Product (value articulation, not feature dumping)

- Ensure communication supports long-term brand equity, not short-term noise

Required skills and experiences

- 8+ years in brand, communications, editorial, or narrative-driven roles

- Exceptional writing and editing skills (this is non-negotiable)

- Strong strategic thinking and positioning ability

- Proven experience owning brand voice across multiple channels

- Ability to work directly with senior leadership and challenge unclear thinking

- Comfort with ambiguity and early-stage environments

Preferred skills and experiences

- Background in journalism, strategy, editorial, consulting, or brand leadership

- Experience building a brand from zero or repositioning an existing one

- Experience working with research-driven or product-driven teams

- High taste level and low tolerance for fluff
