Design Management Specialist

Responsible for managing, coordinating, and monitoring all design activities executed by external design studios. Ensures that all design deliverables meet the required schedule, quality standards, and project design criteria throughout each development phase

-Coordinate with: External Design Studios, Engineering Module Leaders, PMO, Chief Engineer and all other relevant PIC working on program.

Schedule & Scope Management

• Develop, track, and manage work plans for external Styling and C&T studios, ensuring clear scope definition, deliverables, and review milestones.

• Ensure all Styling and C&T phases remain on schedule and meet project development gates.

• Coordinate CMF activitiesincluding material selection, supplier sample reviews, model/buck integration, and approvalsto maintain alignment with Styling deliverables.

• Provide weekly and monthly progress reports, including risk assessments and escalation recommendations, to the Styling Manager and Project Team.

• Proactively identify schedule risks and propose corrective actions to keep Styling and C&T timelines aligned

Design Quality Supervision

• Review all Styling and C&T outputs from external studios to ensure compliance with VinFast's aesthetic, technical, and brand standards.

• Support the Styling Director in assessing Styling deliverables for proportions, surface quality, feasibility, and alignment with brand design DNA.

• Support the Styling Director in evaluating C&T concepts for color and material accuracy, craftsmanship quality, feasibility, and consistency across variants.

• Ensure all sketches, CAS models, CMF proposals, samples, and final design packages meet project requirements and the Creative Brief.

• Maintain cross-team alignment to ensure Styling and C&T outputs integrate seamlessly without design conflicts

Coordination Between Internal Teams & External Studios

• Act as the primary point of contact for all external Styling and C&T studios, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely communication.

• Communicate design requirements, revisions, and cross-functional feedback accurately and effectively to external partners.

• Translate project needs into clear, actionable briefs covering deliverables, CMF direction, timelines, and brand guidelines.

• Organize and support design reviews, milestone presentations, CMF evaluations, and design workshops.

• Coordinate logistics for review sessions, including CAS data sharing, sample preparation and display, and model/buck evaluations.

• Maintain continuous communication to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure on-time delivery of Styling and C&T outputs.

Support for Design Decision-Making

• Prepare clear, concise comparative assessments and presentations for leadership, covering Styling sketches and CAS models, CMF concepts, samples, and competitive benchmarks.

• Consolidate internal and external inputs to clearly articulate design strengths, weaknesses, feasibility, and alignment with VinFast's overall direction.

• Identify risks related to quality, timing, CMF sampling, or StylingC&T alignment, and recommend effective mitigation actions.

• Support the rapid resolution of design conflicts related to form, materials, colors, or differences between studios.

• Work closely with Styling, C&T, Design Quality, Engineering, and Product Planning teams to ensure consistent design execution across all areas and variants.

• Provide recommendations that reinforce VinFast's design identity and support clear product positioning.

Management of Outsourced Design Contracts & Costs

• Manage scope, schedules, deliverables, and costs for external Styling and C&T studios to ensure compliance with contract terms and project requirements.

• Monitor all outputsincluding sketches, CAS models, CMF concepts, samples, and final design packagesto ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

• Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, and Legal teams on contract setup, changes, and ongoing budget tracking.

• Provide transparent cost reporting, identify potential cost overruns early, and recommend corrective actions.

• Evaluate studio performance based on quality, timeliness, communication, and adherence to VinFast standards, providing structured feedback to support future collaborations and vendor selection.

  
  
  

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Design, Automotive Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, or related fields.

Strong understanding of automotive design processes (A-surface development, CAS, 3D modeling, Color & Material Design & Development etc.).

Experience:

Minimum 35 years of experience in automotive styling design (Exterior/Interior) or automotive CMF design or Design coordination/management.

Experience working with global design studios is a strong advantage.

Skills

Strong schedule and multi-stakeholder coordination management skills.

Ability to evaluate sketches, CAS models, proportions, CMF proposals and design feasibility is a strong advantage.

Good English communication skills (mandatory).

Proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of Adobe, CAD/CAS tools is a plus.

Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools for concept development, CMF visualization, and reference generation.

Ability to use AI tools to streamline workflows, reporting, and presentation preparation.
