Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced and strategic engineer to pioneer our Part Commonality strategy. This is a high-impact role where you will directly influence vehicle architecture and our company's bottom line. You will be responsible for analyzing our vehicle designs, identifying opportunities for standardization, and driving the implementation of common parts across multiple vehicle platforms. Your primary goal is to drastically reduce Bill of Materials (BOM) cost, simplify our supply chain, and accelerate our product development and testing cycles.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Implementation: Develop a comprehensive part commonization strategy from principles. Create guidelines and governance processes to enforce commonality across all engineering teams.
Cross-Functional Facilitation: Act as the central point of contact for all part commonality initiatives. Collaborate closely with Engineering and Purchasing teams to gain consensus and drive adoption of common components.
Supplier Collaboration: Work with the procurement team to align the commonality strategy with supplier capabilities, ensuring a robust and cost-effective supply chain for common parts.
Technical Feasibility Studies: Lead technical deep dives to ensure that proposed common parts meet all functional, performance, and regulatory requirements for every application without compromise.
BOM & Data Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis of vehicle BOMs, CAD data, and cost models to identify high-potential candidates for commodification (e.g., fasteners, brackets, sensors, modules, motors).
Business Case Development: Create compelling business cases for commonality projects, clearly articulating the expected savings in part cost, tooling investment, and engineering validation hours. Present your findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
Performance Tracking: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the success of the program, such as the percentage of common parts per vehicle, total cost savings, and reduction in part number count.
