In this role, you will be instrumental in the Battery Cell Institute, using your extensive skills to process and analyze large volumes of data. You will collaborate with diverse teams, including Engineering, Quality Control and VINFAST suppliers, to create cutting-edge solutions that will drive the future of transportation.
- Design and develop mechanical components of battery cells (e.g., Can, Top Cap, Current Collector, tabs, sealing system)
- Create and refine 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, including GD&T definition and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Optimize design for: Structural integrity, Thermal performance, Vibration and impact resistance
- Select suitable materials (e.g., aluminum, copper, stainless steel, polymers) based on performance, cost, and manufacturability
- Design sealing systems, insulation structures, and tab/collector interfaces
- Ensure compatibility with electrochemical and thermal requirements
- Perform engineering analysis including: Tolerance stack-up, Thermal expansion, Mechanical stress (FEA)
- Follow validation testing plans: Crush, drop, vibration, thermal cycling
- Conduct root cause analysis for issues such as deformation, leakage, and welding defects
- Work closely with suppliers to: Review designs (DFM/DFA), Support tooling development and sample builds (Prototype / Mass) , Resolve design, quality, and manufacturability issues
- Ensure designs are suitable for high-volume production
- Incorporate feedback from manufacturing and suppliers to optimize design
- Collaborate with: Electrochemistry team to optimize cell performance, Simualation teams to ensure integrated design, Manufacturing team to improve production efficiency
- Support integration of cells into modules and battery packs
- Generate technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation
- Manage BOM, ECN/ECO, and PLM system updates
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC, ISO)
- Prepare reports, project documentation, and progress updates for stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, or related field
- 2–5+ years of experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency in CAD tools: NX / CATIA / SolidWorks / Creo (NX preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Sheet metal, stamping, machining processes
- GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Mechanical stress, fatigue, and thermal expansion
- Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing environments
- Hands-on experience in sealing and welding processes (e.g., laser welding)
- Familiar with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
- Good English communication skills in a global environment
