Job Description
About the Department
Legal and Secretariat function is comprised of the Legal and Secretariat teams. The Legal team works closely with all functions across the Group to provide timely, accurate and practical legal support. This facilitates decision-making in the delivery of efficient service to our customers, while ensuring that the Group's interests are protected. The Secretariat team supports the boards of UOB and its Singapore subsidiaies in the discharge of their responsibilities and provides advice on governance matters. It also facilitates communication between the non-executive directors and senior management, and manages the induction and professional development programme for directors.
Job Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice on a broad range of matters (including corporate and operational matters), covering Personal Financial Services, Digital Bank, HR, Data. Protection, Supporting Functions, Company Secretary, or others as assigned by Country Head of Legal.
- Drafting, reviewing and hands-on negotiation of diverse commercial documents and agreements with local and global parties.
- Assisting Country Head of Legal to draft legal policies and guidelines.
- Assisting Country Head of Legal to provide legal solutions on Group-related matters and projects.
- Advising on disputes and resolution as assigned.
- Advising the business on legal issues impacting the business.
- Providing update on law development to protect the Bank from legislative risk.
Job Requirements
- A Degree in law from a recognized University, preferably in Master of Law, and/or admitted to provincial bar association.
- At least 7 years of corporate legal experience gained from a combination of private practice and in-house roles, preferably in working experience from international or regional banks and law firms.
- Self-motivated, confident, independent and prepared to work hard with a strong track record in managing a broad range of legal issues.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, command of English language will be an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Meticulous and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Knowledgeable about banking and finance law and other corporate law and procedures.
- Sound judgement and ability to analyse situations and information.
- Essential technical skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
