Job Overview:

The Assistant Manager, Mechanical Engineering is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise and technical assurance for the development of our industrial projects. The role reviews and assures mechanical and MEP designs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure technical compliance, design quality, constructability, operational reliability, maintainability and cost effectiveness. The role also supports technical due diligence, construction-stage assurance, testing and commissioning, and project handover, while coordinating with internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Construction Management team in delivering projects within the approved budget, schedule, quality, safety and sustainability requirements
  • Review mechanical and MEP designs at concept, schematic, detailed design and construction stages to ensure compliance with company's requirements, applicable codes, technical standards and project objectives
  • Review and provide technical input on mechanical systems, including air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation, fire protection, plumbing and sanitary systems, water supply, compressed air and other building services, as applicable
  • Support project feasibility studies, design development, technical due diligence and cost optimization for new developments, asset enhancement works and tenant-specific requirements
  • Develop and maintain mechanical engineering design criteria, technical specifications, standard requirements and technical review checklists
  • Identify design gaps, technical risks, constructability issues and interface requirements, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Support technical bid evaluation, tender assessment of consultants, contractors, suppliers and proposed technical solutions
  • Review proposed materials, equipment and manufacturers to ensure technical compliance, suitability, reliability, maintainability, energy efficiency and value for money
  • Monitor the implementation of approved mechanical designs through design coordination meetings, site inspections and technical audits
  • Review testing and commissioning plans, inspection and test records, system performance results and outstanding technical issues before project completion and handover
  • Support the review and close-out of defects, warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings and other mechanical engineering handover documentation
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders, project owners, consultants, contractors, suppliers, authorities and utility providers on mechanical engineering matters
  • Keep abreast of relevant engineering technologies, regulatory developments, industry standards and sustainable design solutions, and recommend improvements to project specifications and practices
  • Other special related tasks assigned by the company.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in mechanical or MEP design, project management or site management
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial buildings, warehouses, factories, logistics facilities or similar developments
  • Sound knowledge of applicable codes of practice, building regulations, fire safety requirements, environmental requirements and green building or sustainability standards
  • Prior experience with a consultancy, developer, industrial property company or design-and-build contractor is preferred
  • Experience in Ready-Built Warehouse or Ready-Built Factory development is an advantage
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills
  • Able to communicate technical matters clearly and work effectively across multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities, work independently and meet project deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and relevant engineering, project management or quality-management systems
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Willing to travel and attend project sites when business needs arise.
