As a Senior Specialist (I4), the position involves executing complex preventive maintenance, leading fault investigations, and ensuring all technical activities comply with ICAO Annex 10 and national aviation safety standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

I. Technical Maintenance & System Reliability

  1. Execute and oversee the preventive and corrective maintenance of specialized Navigational Aids, including ILS (Instrument Landing System), DME (Distance Measuring Equipment), NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) and Marker beacons), weather radar, and wind shear detection (Lindar) systems..
  2. Monitor and maintain auxiliary systems such as Weather Radar, Lidar, and airfield-specific fiber optic or control cabling.
  3. Conduct regular signal integrity checks and calibration activities to ensure navigation equipment remains within the strict tolerances required for Category I/II/III operations.
  4. Manage the upkeep of Ground-to-Air communication systems and Digital Trunking Radio networks to ensure seamless coordination between Air Traffic Control (ATC) and ground units.

II. Fault Diagnosis & Emergency Response

  1. Act as the senior technical lead during system failures, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to perform root-cause analysis and restore services within mandated Return to Service timeframes.
  2. Lead the troubleshooting of complex electrical circuits, UPS systems, and backup power configurations dedicated to NAVAID stations to prevent power-related outages.
  3. Coordinate with the Airfield Operations Control Centre (AOCC) and ATC to issue NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) when systems are undergoing maintenance or experiencing degradation.

III. Compliance, Documentation & Safety

  1. Maintain accurate technical logs, equipment history files, and maintenance reports in accordance with the airport's Safety Management System (SMS).
  2. Ensure all maintenance work conducted within the airfield perimeter adheres to strict airside safety protocols, including FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control and vehicle movement regulations.
  3. Support internal and external audits by providing evidence of system performance and compliance with ICAO Annex 10 and CAAV regulations.
  4. Assist in the training and technical guidance of junior technicians to elevate the overall competency of the maintenance shift.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A few years (typically 3-5 years) of hands-on, specialized experience in the maintenance of complex electronic systems, telecommunications, or specifically Airfield Navigational Aids.
  • Prior experience leading shift operations or guiding technical interventions in a live, highly regulated operational environment.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Professional aviation personnel licenses, CAAV NAVAID technical certifications, or specialized factory training in ILS/DME systems are highly preferred.
  • Upon being hired, the candidate must undergo and achieve certification in specific training related to the operation and maintenance of aviation equipment.
