Job Description

POSITION

AI / Software Engineering Intern

A paid 6-month internship building production software for industry clients. Work on real-world problems with the engineering team. Overlap required with US and Australian time zones.

ABOUT THE ROLE

aiqon is hiring AI / Software Engineering Interns for a paid, 6-month internship. You'll work on real-world problems for industry clients (not throwaway intern projects) and ship software that people actually use.

This is a hands-on role. You'll ship code, review pull requests, debug production issues, and learn how a small team designs, builds, and iterates. Depending on the project, you may work on product features, APIs, data pipelines, or AI-powered tools for client systems.

We're looking for people who have recently completed, or are about to complete, a degree in computer science, AI, or software engineering, who write clean code, think from first principles, and want to learn by building.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and ship features on real-world systems for industry clients.
  • Contribute to AI-powered features such as LLM integrations, retrieval pipelines, and tooling that makes those systems reliable.
  • Write clear, maintainable code with tests; participate in code review and iterate based on feedback.
  • Debug issues end-to-end, from UI to API to data, and document what you learn so the team can move faster.
  • Collaborate with product and client stakeholders to turn operational needs into working software.
  • Improve developer experience where you see friction: scripts, docs, types, and small infrastructure fixes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Recently completed, or about to complete, a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, AI/ML, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript; you can write working software without being walked through every step.
  • Comfort with Git, web fundamentals (HTTP, REST, HTML/CSS), and at least one modern framework (e.g. React, Node, or a Python web stack).
  • Genuine interest in AI/ML and software engineering. You experiment, read docs, and ship small projects of your own.
  • A GitHub, portfolio, or LinkedIn that shows work you have actually built.
  • Clear written communication in English; you can explain trade-offs and ask for help early.
  • Willing to work overlapping hours with US and Australian time zones.
  • Available for a paid 6-month remote internship.

Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Thank you.
