About The Role
The Lead Studio Automation & AI Tools Engineer drives automation, builds operational tools, and applies AI-assisted workflows to improve engineering productivity. This is a hands-on leadership role, managing a small team while actively developing solutions. Working cross-functionally, the role aims to eliminate repetitive work, streamline operations, and reduce the cost of running live games through scalable automation and intelligent tooling.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and mentor a small team of Studio Automation & AI Tools Engineers.
- Provide technical guidance and code level leadership across automation projects.
- Set engineering standards for automation tooling, scripting, and AI assisted workflows.
- Ensure solutions are maintainable, well documented, and reusable across titles.
- Help grow the team over time as the studio expands its portfolio.
- Hands-on Automation Engineering
- Design and implement automation tools and scripts that eliminate repetitive operational work.
- Build reusable operational tooling that can be used across multiple game teams.
- Collaborate directly with Game Engineers and technical owners to automate operational tasks.
- Maintain and evolve internal tooling used for LiveOps operations, QA workflows, and release support.
- AI Assisted Engineering and Tooling
- Promote practical adoption of AI assisted development tools within automation workflows.
- Experiment with AI driven approaches to automation generation, log analysis, and operational diagnostics.
- Identify opportunities where AI can improve debugging, operational insight, and engineering productivity.
- Work with technical leadership to ensure responsible and effective use of AI across the studio.
- Operational Efficiency and Workflow Improvements
- Identify and reduce manual work across LiveOps, QA, and operational processes through targeted automation.
- Design and implement scalable workflows and reusable tooling to improve consistency and engineering leverage across titles.
- Address root causes of operational issues and implement preventive improvements to reduce recurrence and increase reliability.
- Monitoring and Operational Visibility
- Improve monitoring, logging, and diagnostics to provide clear and reliable visibility into production systems.
- Build tools that enable engineers to quickly understand system behavior and investigate issues in production.
- Strengthen observability and alerting practices to enable faster detection and more effective troubleshooting of incidents.
- Collaboration with DevOps and Platform Teams
- Work with the central DevOps team when automation interacts with deployment pipelines or infrastructure systems.
- Collaborate with the platform teams when automation interacts with shared services, internal tools or platform capabilities.
- Ensure studio automation tooling aligns with existing platform and DevOps standards.
- Focus primarily on automation and engineering tooling, rather than infrastructure ownership.
Qualifications
Must have:
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering, developer tooling, or automation.
- 1+ years of experience mentoring or leading Engineers in a technical capacity.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Experience using AI assisted development tools as part of engineering workflows (Claude Code, OpenCode, LangChain, Codex, Devin...)
- Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, Java, Python or TypeScript.
- Experience building automation tools, developer tooling, or operational systems.
- Strong understanding of software development workflows and engineering productivity tools.
Nice to have:
- Experience working on live products or operational systems.
- Experience building internal developer tools or automation frameworks.
- Exposure to monitoring, logging, and operational diagnostics tooling.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD systems or cloud infrastructure.
Note: Infrastructure and DevOps responsibilities are primarily handled by the central DevOps team. Experience in these areas is helpful but not required.
Additional Notes: You may be expected to complete a test as part of the interviewing procedure.
