GOVERNMENTS all over the world run a national scholarship programmes, aimed at attracting the brightest of foreign students. These are invariably run on a bilateral or aid basis, and the selection is done through a state department. The scholarship division of Ministry of Human Resource Department, GOI, administers these scholarships every year.
At least 12 countries participate in the programme. Nearly 400+ destinations are on offer and the final selection is done by the respective foreign government based on a merit list prepared by GOI. The scholarships are advertised between May and August every year for admission for the following year. here’s a list of the countries and the type of scholarships, in brief.
Belgium
Scholarships offered to three students for Postgraduate Programme in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Photonics for 10 months. Eligibility: Graduation in the related subject with 60% or above marks, age maximum 35 years.
Accepted scholars receive:
i) A monthly grant of 770,00 Euro during one academic year ( 10 months).
ii) Reimbursement of tuition fee.
iii) An extensive medical and third party liability insurance
China
Offered to a maximum of 25 students in seven subjects including Chinese Language & Literature for a duration up to 4 years maximum to. Scholarship amount covers expenditure on board & lodging, tuition fees, pocket expenses. Eligibility: age below 40 Years. Qualification for Chinese Lang 2 – 3 year Certificate/Diploma in basic Chinese Language from recognised Institution/University. Bachelor degree in Fine Arts with 60% marks at Postgaduates level with work research experience of two years.
UK
Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowships are offered in Clinical Training in case of Medical field/Postgraduation/PhD in fields of Medicine, Engineering, Science, Agriculture and Humanities; for 1 year in case of Postgraduation/6 months clinical Training/3 yrs in case of PhD Scholarships cover tourist-class air passage (both ways) fee, adequate maintenance and other allowances are part of the scholarship.
Czech Republic
Offered for Master/Doctoral studies (PhD); in Agriculture (for PhD) Electrical/Electronics Engineering/Mechanical Engineering (for Masters & PhD) to 4 scholars with 7000 CZK for Master’s and 7,500 CZK for Doctor’s per month. There is no tuition fee and medical care is free of charge for scholarship holders.
Israel
Awarded to students pursuing studies in 12 fields for 8 months which covers stay, tuition fees, health insurance etc.
Italy
- Category A
PG Scholarships for 12 months each in 8 subjects. Eligibility: Bachelor or equivalent degree with 60% marks and/or Master or equivalent degree 60% marks with specialisation in the subject opted, from a recognised University. Age not to exceed 35 years. The stipend shall be Euro 700 for month. - Category B
Scholarships with a duration of 12 months each to pursue the First Year of 3 Year Degree Course. - Category C
Scholarships with a duration of 6 months each to pursue the Second Level Advanced Course (C2) of the Italian Language & Culture course. - Category D
Scholarships with a duration of 3 months each to pursue the First Level Advanced Course (C1) of the Italian Language & Culture course - Category E
Scholarships with a duration of 3 months each to pursue the Second Level Intermediate Course (B2) of the Italian Language & Culture course.
The above four categories of courses are all offered at the Institute for teaching the Italian language and Culture to foreigners (ILIS) of the University for Foreigners, Perugia. Scholarship Amount: Euro 700 per month for stay in Italy as well as for the course fee, which is reduced to 50% for scholarship holders of categories B, C, D and E.
Japan
Offered for research study (PhD) in 15 areas including engineering, biotech and fisheries for 1.5-2 years to 35 scholars. Maintenance allowance offered covers fees, partial medical expenses, accommodation, In select cases return airfare too is on offer.
Korea
Offered in 9 subjects/fields for duration of 3-5 years to 29 students. Eligibility: As per the guideline given by National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED). It covers stay, tuition fees, health insurance and passage cost.
Mexico
Scholarships for pursuing Postgraduation & PhD in 10 fields to 6 students. The scholarship includes Enrolment, school fees where applicable and monthly maintenance allowance. This currently amounts to $6,310.80 pesos for Master’s or Master’s-level research and $7,888.50 pesos for a Doctoral research.
New Zealand
Scholarship offered for Doctoral studies in Education, Primary Health and Sustainable Rural Livelihoods. Expenditure on board, lodging, books, study material, tuition fee, internal travel related to studies and medical care is met by donor country.
Norway
Offered for pursuing Postgraduation and MPhil in 7 fields for upto 10 months to 3 students. The scholarship amounts are:
- NOK 8,500 (£ 1,000) per month for candidates who hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- NOK 11,500 (£ 1,400) per month for PhD students.
In addition, depending on the length of the stay, an extra NOK 7,000-10,000 (£ 900-1,300) granted to cover initial expenses.
Slovakia
Offered to students willing to pursue Master’s in Economy Management & Agriculture to 2 students. Age: below 26 years. Value: 6000 SKK per month.
Turkey
Research scholarships offered in Agriculture, Biotechnology and Environmental Engineering for 2 to 8 months to 4 scholars with 200 New Turkish Lira (i.e.. Rs.6,666/- approx.). Eligibility: Postgraduation with minimum 60% marks in relevant subjects, fluent communication skills in at least one Language i.e. Turkish, English or French Languages, You must be medically fit, and below 45 years as on 30th April of the in-take year. It covers school fees, dorm fees and medical care expenses for scholars (except for long-term illnesses, serious surgical operations, prosthesis, jaw orthopedics, orthodontics, and tooth prosthesis). Candidates need to bear the travel expenses by themselves.
